Meeting Notes

1. Costumes!
  • Some ladies just stopped by to say hi, and we had a lovely time chatting, laughing and sipping vino.
  • Others had serious plans. Malia made a pair of white bloomers, and patched up her Granny dress. Tonya made a fabulous fire engine red pants with shiny fabric. Deb had ambitious plans to make orange and teal striped knee high pants and got as far as cutting out pieces. Becca is working on an outrageous leopard print costume.
  • The surger was great, but none of us knew how to use it. It has a manual, but no one was in the right frame of mind to read instructions tonight. But we would like to use it again next month!
  • Kat brought a box of old costumes to share. Very late, Nicole/Deb/Sharon/Malia went through it. Wings, pants, shirts, beautiful bird masks. We decided to keep all the pieces together and put it in Sharon’s garage.

2. Business
  • Anne had an interested project to bring to the group’s attention. She like to meet with the head of Life Is A Parade about an empowerment, reciprocal learning partnership-project with them., and wanted to get a feel for interest. Group support across the board, so Anne is going to set up a meeting to chat on behalf of Chicks. Other important details: If it looks like a good fit to pursue, Anne is happy to write a MRAC grant she has in mind. She’d like to take on a  leadership role with this project if it goes ahead, and have clearly defined roles and responsibilities. Again, broad group support for this.
  • The Arboretum possibility is now out of the running - the group was being inconsistent about funding.
  • Next meeting… Deb was going to feel out an ideal monthly meeting date but found it impossible with all the various replies and schedules. Several months ended in obviously bad conflicts because of seasonal activities and holidays. As a group, we looked at the next calendar year and roughly determined the 3rd Tuesday of each month would be a better option than the last. So mark that in  your planners now, ladies! (11/15, 12/20, 1/17, 2/21, 3/20, etc…)
  • As a group we did decide to confirm the next months date at the end of each meeting, so that we can “massage” dates as needed to accommodate schedules if it really won’t work for the entire group. Deb reminded everyone that we should remember not everyone will be able to attend each meeting - but over the course of the calendar year, the idea is that overall we’ll all be able to attend more this way.
  • The first exception we’re making to our calendar will be to make October a social meeting time again in light of the general business we all face with the Halloween show. Malia recommended we do costumes again and all were in favor. Anne tentatively offered her home (Anne, please confirm.)
  • Related reminder: that would make November a business meeting. Do we want to discuss the things brought up in September when we were visioning the future of Chicks and where we want to take the group?

### NEXT COS MEETING IS: Tue. Oct. 18th, 7-9pm (tentatively @ Anne’s) for costumes again! ###
